But single 27% of the incapable informer, the rats that had skilled in-escapable shock, says no to the tumor. This learning illustrate those who touch there is no method out of their shock / reduce are a reduced amount of hopeful to be capable of performing to eliminate tumors come into being surrounded by their figure, unpaid to distinguished stage of pressure weakening the invulnerable logic. I made this video with my dad, Robert Gallner (call him Bob), who is a survivor of Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma. He discusses his experience with the disease beginning with his first diagnosis, through the removal of several tumors and a kidney, Interleukin-2 (IL-2) therapy, and remission. He also shares insight on how to achieve inner peace and spirituality with techniques like visualization and meditation to remain positive through this painstaking process and eliminate fear. Update: Bob was diagnosed with RCC again in his liver and had major surgery after the making of this video. The surgery went really well and he is recovering wonderfully, a true survivor. These past few years have been nerve racking at times but I can honestly say my father’s cancer has brought our whole family together and we have never been closer or had so much fun together! Who are we to say what is good or bad? See the good in every situation and your life will be bliss. Circumstances do not matter. Only your state of being matters. Cancer is a challenge, but it is one we can overcome. Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments

Alternative Breast Cancer Treatments

A wide variety of alternative breast cancer treatments exist today.  While “alternative” treatments are defined as practices that replace traditional treatments, most breast cancer patients use them in combination with conventional medicine.  Generally, alternative treatments are not acknowledged by the medical community as standard medical practices and therefore, many patients do not inform their doctors when using these therapies.  Examples of alternative treatments include acupuncture, massage, megavitamins, herbal supplements, nutrition, and magnetic therapy, to name a few.

Practiced for thousands of years, acupuncture involves the stimulation of specific points on the body using a hair-thin needle, or other method, to restore the body’s internal balance and energy flow.  Acupuncture may be used for pain relief and to control side effects from chemotherapy.

Massage involves manual manipulation of muscles and soft tissue.  It is believed that massage enhances the function of those muscles and tissues involved, while promoting relaxation.  It is often used together with other therapies.  Available scientific evidence does not support claims that massage slows or reverses the growth or spread of cancer.

Megavitamin treatments usually involve very high doses of vitamins A, C and E.  While the body requires these and other vitamins for optimal health, too much of a single vitamin may be harmful and even interfere with other treatments.  A healthy diet, one that offers lots of fruits and vegetables, eliminates the need for vitamin supplements.  More is not always better.

Good nutrition is always important, but for anyone fighting breast cancer, or any cancer, it’s crucial.  Though there are many, one alternative nutrition treatment is the macrobiotic diet. This diet is strictly vegetarian and includes whole grains, vegetables, beans, seaweed and soups. This diet is promoted for both cancer prevention and treatment, though there is no proof that is has any affect on either.  In general, a healthy diet—one that includes fruits, vegetables and protein—provides the reserves of nutrients needed to maintain a strong immune system and cope with the adverse side of effects of treatments.

Herbal supplements are plant extracts and have long been used for a variety of health purposes.  While they may be labeled as “natural,” it doesn’t mean that they are safe or even good for the body.  The fact is that herbal supplements can act like a drug and may be harmful when taken in large amounts.  There are few regulations in place to control the quality and safety of these products.  In 2007, the FDA did initiate new regulations to help improve this, but many are not effective until 2010.  Cancer experts often recommend that patients avoid dietary supplements altogether.

These are just a few of the many alternative breast cancer treatments available.  When facing a life threatening illness, such as breast cancer, a feeling of desperation may be experienced while searching for treatments.  As a result, the patient may develop an “I’ll try anything” mentality.  While it’s important to keep an open mind about new treatment options, it’s more important to approach alternative treatments with caution.  Be upfront and honest with everyone involved in treating your disease before starting any alternative therapies.  Many of these may be safe, but there may also be risks involved when combining alternative and traditional medicine.  Ultimately, the decision for any treatment is up to the patient.  Choosing one treatment over another should be based on knowledge, not fear.  Remember, knowledge is power.

Gary Leonard; I have been interested in cancer since my brother Jerry was diagnosed with colon cancer five years ago. After two surgeries he is doing well and is still cancer free. The first surgery was to remove a large tumor from his colon and the second was to remove his colon. Needless to say he has been through a lot and the road to recovery was a long one. About two years ago my brother Fred was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Man, you talk about devastating! Well after about a month or two the shock started to ware off and treatments started to begin. My brother Fred was in denial for, what seemed to be a long time. I wanted to write about both of my brothers cancers but, decided against it thinking it would hurt them some how so I decided to write about cancers that no one in the family has as of yet. If you’d like to send a massage of support to my brothers Jerry and Fred, leave a comment here and I’ll see that they get it. If you’d like more information on breast cancer treatment, please click this link.

P.S. My brother Fred is doing well. The chemo the doctors used on him shrunk the tumor until it was off the radar. We’re not sure its gone but we know that its not growing, at least for now.

Information on Breast Cancer

Information on Breast Cancer

The breasts sit on the chest muscles that cover the ribs. Each breast is made of 15 to 20 lobes. Lobes contain many smaller lobules. Lobules contain groups of tiny glands that can produce milk. Milk flows from the lobules through thin tubes called ducts to the nipple. The nipple is in the center of a dark area of skin called the areola. Fat fills the spaces between the lobules and ducts.

Breast cancer incidence is much higher in industrialised Western countries, whether in Europe or North America, than in developing countries. North American women have the highest incidence of breast cancer in the world. Among women in the U.S., breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second-most common cause of cancer death (after lung cancer). Women in the U.S. have a 1 in 8 (12.5%) lifetime chance of developing invasive breast cancer and a 1 in 35 (3%) chance of breast cancer causing their death. In 2007, breast cancer was expected to cause 40,910 deaths in the U.S. (7% of cancer deaths; almost 2% of all deaths)

Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer in women and the second most common cause of cancer death in women in the U.S. While the majority of new breast cancers are diagnosed as a result of an abnormality seen on a mammogram, a lump or change in consistency of the breast tissue can also be a warning sign of the disease. Heightened awareness of breast cancer risk in the past decades has led to an increase in the number of women undergoing mammography for screening, leading to detection of cancers in earlier stages and a resultant improvement in survival rates.

Breast cancer is the number one disease that women in the United States fear the most, and for compelling reasons. It is the leading cause of death among women between 40 and 55 years of age and is the second overall cause of death among women (exceeded only by lung cancer). Unfortunately, it is also on the rise worldwide. According to the American Cancer Society, this year about 175,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer and about 43,300 deaths from breast cancer will occur among women in the USA.

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy affecting women in North America and Europe. Close to 200,000 cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in the United States in 2001. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American women behind lung cancer. The lifetime risk of any particular woman getting breast cancer is about 1 in 8 although the lifetime risk of dying from breast cancer is much lower at 1 in 28. Men are also at risk for development of breast cancer, although this risk is much lower than it is for women.

Breast cancer is more easily treated and often curable if it is found early. Monthly breast self-examinations should begin at age 20. Recommended screening methods include breast self-examination and mammography.

The most serious cancers are metastatic cancers. Metastasis means that the cancer has spread from the place where it started into other tissues distant from the original tumor site. The most common place for breast cancer to metastasize is into the lymph nodes under the arm or above the collarbone on the same side as the cancer. Other common sites of breast cancer metastasis are the brain, the bones, and the liver.

Death rates from breast cancer have been gradually declining and continue to decline. These decreases are likely due both to increased awareness and screening and improved treatment methods.

Knowing The Causes of Breast Cancer

Knowing The Causes of Breast Cancer

As the days and years pass, you will see that there are more and more women being affected by breast cancer. Because of this, one of the questions about breast cancer that comes into mind is its main causes. Are there any ways of avoiding it?

First, one of the main reasons why a number of women have breast cancer is because of genes. When a family member or a number of them have suffered from breast cancer or any other type of cancer, for that matter, it will increase the chances of the new generations in their family in acquiring their disease. There is a gene in the family that is making cells in the body grow uncontrollable. So when these genes are said to be positive for cancer, it can be multiplying the cancer cells in the body.

The next reason is that the body may not be getting the needed nutrients in order for it to protect it from diseases and henceforth you are also increasing the chances of you getting breast cancer. Keep in mind that even machines break down without fuel. Therefore, the body should also have the proper nutrients in order to keep the physical machine running at its optimal level.

With all the industrialization affecting our environment and becoming very busy with work which impulsively changes our lifestyle, we are bringing in a lot of toxins in our body that in the end increases women’s chances of having cancer. Uncontrolled vices such as alcohol and smoking will also bring in a lot of toxins in our body. With this, it is important for you to do detoxification methods in order to keep these toxins from settling in your body and make it an aid in promoting cancer in the body.

Next is being exposed to radiation through areas with high electromagnetic fields. Exposure to this will promote mutation in the DNA structure and can promote development of cancer cells aside from cellular damage that it may cause in the body.

Being too stressed out can also promote cancer growth. The reason for this is that being mentally stressed will also cause your body to experience too much fatigue. You need to remember that all the physical processes is controlled by the brain and once stress sets in, it will greatly have an effect on your body to let disease dominate it.

The final reason is that there are products meant for personal care that are really not promoting care on your body. These products may have carcinogenic contents that are increasing the chances of having cancer. With this, you have to make sure that using personal care products should be consulted with the doctors so you will be recommended with a reliable personal care items.

By knowing these causes, you will be able to prevent the occurrence of cancer by just avoiding these or promoting a change of lifestyle. And with regular check up, you will surely work your way toward health and breast cancer prevention.

We all need to understand a bit more exactly what cancer is, so feel free to read more about what is breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Symptoms In Men

Breast Cancer Symptoms In Men

When women are faced with the diagnosis of breast cancer, they are taken through a whirlwind of seeing doctors and receiving tests aimed at defeating the cancer. Breast Cancer Symptoms In Men They receive a whole pile of information from their radiation oncologist, their medical oncologist, their breast radiologist, and their breast surgeon. All the focus is on eliminating the cancer. Our detection and treatment of cancer has improved over the years and women are living through the diagnosis of breast cancer, but what about after the cancer is gone. What are the options for women who have undergone a mastectomy or women who had a lumpectomy, but now have breast deformity? Many of these women had options for reconstruction performed at the same time as the mastectomy, but the focus was on killing the cancer. So next time you or someone you know has been diagnosed with breast cancer, please take a moment to reflect about the post-cancer needs of the patient. Ask these questions.

1. Is she a candidate for immediate breast reconstruction? (Reconstruction performed at the time of the mastectomy)

Patients with early stages of breast cancer who are not likely to receive radiation therapy are candidates for immediate reconstruction?

2. What are the advantages of immediate breast reconstruction?

Patients have less scarring and better cosmetic outcomes when the reconstruction is performed at the time of mastectomy. In addition, there is a proven psychologic benefit for patients undergoing immediate breast reconstruction?

3. Does immediate reconstruction delay other necessary treatments like chemotherapy?

Although some patients may have wound still to heal, most published studies demonstrate no difference in the time after surgery that chemotherapy is started whether or not patients undergo immediate reconstruction.

4. Does immediate breast reconstruction increase the chance of breast cancer recurrence?

Immediate reconstruction has no difference in local cancer recurrence from mastectomy alone?

5. Does immediate reconstruction decrease survival?

Patients undergoing mastectomy alone when compared to those receiving immediate breast reconstruction have no difference in the overall survival. Therefore, immediate breast reconstruction is oncologically safe and effective.

6. If she needs radiation therapy and is not a candidate for immediate breast reconstruction, are there options that can hep minimize the scarring?

Lung Cancer Secrets Revealed Click here

Traditionally, all of patients requiring radiation were not offered immediate reconstruction. However, this paradigm is shifting and by working with the radiation oncologist we can place temporary tissue expanders to help keep all the original skin of the breast. Then after your radiation therapy is complete, we can replace the expander with your own tissue with or without an implant to complete your reconstruction. This process is called delayed-immediate breast reconstruction and is a mix between immediate and delayed reconstruction so that we can maintain all your original skin and minimize scarring.

7. What are the latest options for breast reconstruction?

The options for breast reconstruction are usually categorized by implant or autologous (using your body’s own tissue) based reconstruction. Implant reconstruction involves the use of a tissue expander (an inflatable implant) to recruit more skin before finally replacing the temporary expander with a silicone or saline implant.

Autologous Reconstruction is most commonly performed from tissue from your abdomen. The deep inferior epigastric artery flap (DIEP Flap) is performed by taking skin and fat from your lower abdomen and preserving ALL the muscle to recreate soft natural breast that will last the test of time. Using microsurgical techniques, your plastic surgeon will recreate the breast gland and shape. In addition, patients benefit from the tummy tuck they receive when the skin and fat from the lower abdomen is removed. Other autologous options include the superficial epigastric artery flaps and flaps taken from the buttocks.

Stage IV – Metastatic breast cancer, where the cancer has spread to other organs.

Almost all breast cancer victims will have some type of surgery to remove as much of the cancerous growth as possible. No matter how successful, most will probably undergo a regimen of chemotherapy as well. This kills off any microscopic scraps of the disease that may remain to grow into full-fledged cancer again. Other therapies such as radiotherapy (radiation therapy), hormonal therapy, or biologic therapy may be proscribed.

Once treated, breast cancer patients need to be monitored for recurrence. At first this means every 3-4 months. These become less and less frequent, but annual mammograms are even more important for former breast cancer patients than for the normal population.

Breast Cancer: Prevention and Methods of Early Detection

Breast Cancer: Prevention and Methods of Early Detection

There is every chance that you, or a family member, colleague, or friend has been affected in some way by breast cancer.

The words ‘breast cancer’ send a chill of fear down everyone’s spine. What is breast cancer and can you prevent it? Here are some facts about breast cancer that every woman should know. You will also learn more about prevention and early detection, especially important if you have a history of cancer in your family.

What Should I Know About Breast Cancer?

There are over two hundred different types of cancer and according to the American Cancer Society breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women. While it is also possible for a man to get breast cancer women are 100 times more likely to develop it than men.

There are several forms of breast cancer that occur in different areas of the breast. Most breast cancers are treated with radiation, chemotherapy or surgery. The treatment program determined for any individual depends on the type of cancer, how far it has spread and where it is located. While great strides are taking place in cancer treatment, prevention and early detection are by far the most preferable options.

The statistics are grim. The American Cancer Society reports that 1 in 8 women in the US will experience invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. The chance of dying from breast cancer is one in 33, but that number is decreasing as new forms of treatment and early detection are being implemented.

The good news is that it is possible for women to reduce their risk of dying from breast cancer. When breast cancer is discovered and treated early, the chances for recovery are better.

Women with a high risk should primarily discuss the possible preventive measures currently available with their doctor. However, various simple self-help measures are described below.

Who is Most Likely to Get Breast Cancer?

While every woman has some level of risk there are certain factors that increase the likelihood a person may develop breast cancer. Not having these risk factors does not mean you will not develop cancer just as being at a high risk doesn’t mean you will develop cancer.

Smoking, age and family history are the common factors that are assessed when determining risk.

While smoking can be controlled, age and family history cannot. The older you are the greater the risk that you will develop breast cancer. Almost 8 out of 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer are over 50. If women in your family developed breast cancer you are also at an increased risk.

Certain genetic changes increase the risk that a woman will develop cancer to as high as 80%. Testing for these changes can help a woman and her doctor discuss preventative measures that might be taken.

Caucasian women have a higher risk of developing breast cancer but African-American women more often die from the disease. Asians, Hispanics and American Indian women are less likely to get it.

Starting your period (menstruation) before age 12 or going through menopause after 55 slightly increases the risk.

Having taken the drug DES (diethylstilbestrol), which some women were given in the belief it would prevent them from losing a baby, slightly increases the risk while radiation to the chest earlier in life greatly increases the risk.

Being overweight, use of alcohol, long term use of HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and not having children have all been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. Using birth control pills may increase the risk and should be discussed with your doctor.

On the other hand exercise, healthy eating (especially reducing the intake of alcohol and red meats) or having had children early in life and breastfeeding for as long as 18 to 24 months have been linked to a reduced risk of developing breast cancer.

What Else Can I Do to Reduce the Risk?

While there are no cures yet, researchers have discovered that a healthy lifestyle is the best way to prevent cancer. Since cancer is a disease that starts in our cells, everything we eat and are exposed to can affect them.

Choose to be a non-smoker and avoid second-hand smoke.

In regards to diet, choose a variety of lower fat, high fiber foods. Studies have shown that intake of total fat, saturated fat and meat are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Maintain a healthy body weight and limit alcohol consumption.

Protect yourself from the sun.

At home and at work, follow health and safety instructions when using hazardous materials.

The link between an active lifestyle and breast cancer prevention is as yet unclear but general health is improved when regular exercise is an integral part of a person’s lifestyle.

Early Detection

Since early detection is so important it is vital that women learn how to detect lumps in their breasts and understand what precautions must be taken. Those who are more at risk of developing cancer should take extra steps to detect cancer as early as possible.

While a doctor or nurse can show you how to perform a BSE (breast self-exam) the American Cancer Society still recommends that women in their twenties and thirties should have a clinical exam every three years and once a year after 40. In later years most women should also have regular mammograms to catch cancers earlier. But what about the time in between mammograms and clinical exams?

This is when regular self examination is so important.

Every woman should know her own breasts so that any changes are noticed soon and can be checked out by a physician.

Regardless of age, all women should do a monthly breast self-examination a few days after their period. When doing breast self-examination, things to look for include: dimpling or puckering of the skin, swelling, discharges other than milk, bleeding or any other change to the nipple, or the appearance of what is sometimes called ‘orange peel skin’.

Any place in your breasts that feels lumpy or harder than the rest needs to be brought to the attention of a doctor. Most breast problems are not breast cancer and most lumps are not cancerous. When a lump is not cancerous it is referred to as ‘benign’. A cancerous lump is called ‘malignant’. But only a professional clinician can make that diagnosis and it’s no use waiting, worrying and hoping it will go away. Sometimes small lumps, in the early stages, are hard to find, but the earlier a lump is diagnosed, the better, so catch lumps small – don’t wait until they’re large.

Taking care of ourselves, including regular breast examinations, is an ongoing commitment that requires self-discipline and knowledge. It is well worth the effort as early diagnosis is definitely the most important factor in surviving breast cancer.

“It was all a failure.” She was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. Underwent mastectomy followed by chemotherapy (FAC) and then on Tamoxifen. 9 months after treatment, the right of her nect was swollen. There was widespread metastasis including her lung and liver. She was given 28X radiotherapy and Oral Tykerb. Four years after her diagnosis she died – after spending over RM100,000.
